FUNANANI recognises that, as a result of HIV/AIDS and other socio-economic factors, our communities are falling into a vicious poverty trap in which the fabric of society is being destroyed, depriving children of an enabling environment in which they can develop foundational skills and flourish. If nothing is done to help children and underprivileged members of communities, a generation of children will grow up without the skills to form healthy family relationships, raise children or contribute to the formal economy. They will be condemned to a subsistence lifestyle. This, in turn, weakens the entire South African economy and leads to further social breakdown.

FUNANANI model aims at intervening in this vicious cycle at the point of children, families and communities in need to give them a chance to become a generation of hope who are strong, dependable members of society, well-educated and morally grounded, capable of nurturing others and making a valuable contribution to the economy. Individuals who were helped can now help others and enable the next generation to excel.

FUNANANI’S programmes focus on alleviating poverty and suffering with direct assistance of the material, emotional and spiritual needs of children, families and communities. Although this is necessary, we are aware that it is not sustainable and therefore offer other programmes that focus on contributing towards increasing self-sufficiency and sustainability. We work as bridge builders across cultural and socio-economic barriers and evangelism and discipleship are central to all our programmes.
